DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid), often referred to as "brain gold," is a vital polyunsaturated fatty acid essential for human health. As a key member of the Omega-3 fatty acid family, DHA is fundamental to the growth and functional maintenance of neural cells. It makes up about 20% of the human cerebral cortex and approximately 50% of the retinal structure, highlighting its crucial role in the intellectual and visual development of fetuses and children.
The Institute of Medicine (IOM) in the USA recommends the following daily DHA intake: 90-160mg for adolescents aged 4-18, 160mg for adults, and 200mg for pregnant women.
In China, the recommended dietary DHA intake is 200mg per day for pregnant and lactating women and 100mg per day for children aged 0-3 years.
